***NEWLY UPDATED***
Pack now includes a card about Who, What, When, Where, and Why in our writing.
We use these cards to teach the students the different stages of the elements of writing. It includes:
Using capitals
Using punctuation
Adding finger spaces
Using phonetic or correct spelling (letters/words)
Putting name and date on the paper
Using commas
Using sight words
I write my students names on clothespins and move them around on the cards depending on which element of writing they are working on, or need additional practice with.
I found that the best way for students to learn their sight words was to have them wear the sight word that they are working on. I tried stickers with the words, or stamps on their hands, so that the word was always close by if they needed to refer to it during class. But stamps wash away and stickers lose their stick, so I came up with bracelets.
Mine are colored for each different sight word that the students are working on. It helps differentiate if they are working on more than one sight word at a time.
This 2nd set includes the second 10 Fry Words: if, he, and, it, is, see, look, of, in, at.
Each page includes 8 colored and black and white bracelets for each of the 10 sight words. Simply print, cut, and tape around your student's wrists, so they can easily wear what they are learning!

Students step into the role of being a Marine Biologist and complete a research study on an ocean animal similar to the story "Over in the Ocean", with the main focus being animal conservation. Following the story students will select an ocean animal (great chance to get some stuffed ocean animals in the classroom) to learn about and work towards conserving.
Students can work independently, in small groups or partners depending on preference and ability. Once the research packet is complete, students will create a conservation poster to draw awareness to how we can help these animals.
